Wired U.K. has launched a new one-stop educational book series highlighting the trends, organizations and big ideas that are changing our world.
“At Wired U.K. we’re fortunate to spend our days reporting on a rapidly changing world: being able to tell the stories of the transformational technologies and trends at book-length is a hugely exciting prospect for the team and will enable us to reach our global audience in an entirely new way,” says Greg Williams, Editor-in-Chief of Wired U.K.
Authored by Wired U.K. journalists, the first three titles in this distinctive and accessible series include:
The Future of Medicine by James Temperton
Temperton explores the medical revolutions that are transforming healthcare and will make living beyond 100 years the rule rather than the exception. From the science and ethics of genetic engineering to the cutting-edge medical research that could treat mental and neurological disorders.
Artificial Intelligence by Matt Burgess
Learn everything you need to know about AI. In this guide, Burgess explores how machine learning will shape the next decade, from pitfalls and weaknesses to the revolutionary changes that will continue to evolve every aspect of our daily lives.
Climate Change by Bianca Nogrady
Nogrady analyses the science of climate change and offers an overview of ways to reduce carbon emissions. Examining the challenges posed by food and energy production, cutting-edge technologies and green initiatives, Nogrady addresses the fundamental question: is it possible to safeguard our future before it's too late?
The next tranche of the series, published later in 2021, will include:
Amit Katwala’s Quantum Computing: how it works and why it could change the world (17th June 2021), tells you everything you need to know about the next computer revolution, the competing efforts of global tech companies to create a viable quantum computer and its potential applications, from medicine, to cyber security and clean energy.
Cryptocurrency: how digital money could transform finance (15th July 2021), by Gian Volpicelli, demystifies digital currency – from blockchain, Bitcoin and stablecoins to mining, smart contracts and forking – and looks at whether cryptocurrency can have the transformative economic and social impact that its champions claim it will.
Matt Reynolds takes on The Future of Food: how to feed the planet without destroying it (16th September 2021). He considers the potential for lab-grown meat, the development of disease-resistant crops, and asks, how do we feed more people while using fewer of the Earth’s resources?
